About

Pauline Côme-Laing, MITI

I am a native French speaker with a Bachelor’s dregree in English Studies from Le Mans Université, and a Masters degree in Business Translation and Interpreting from the University of Strathclyde. I recently successfuly defended my PhD thesis in Translation Studies, also with the University of Strathclyde. I am also a fully qualified member (MITI) of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI).

My doctoral research is the perfect illustration of my passion for languages and heritage, bringing the two together in a study of translated visitor-facing resources in Scottish heritage sites. This has helped me develop a strong understanding of the drivers and barriers to language provision in the heritage and cultural sectors.

With over 5 years’ experience working in the translation industry, both as in-house linguist and freelance translator, I can use my expertise to help clients in the cultural, education and tourism sectors to communicate with their French-speaking audience.

Continued development

Continued learning and professional development are part of my DNA. Naturally curious, I am always looking for ways to deepen my understanding of translation practices. I keep abreast of developments in the translation industry and in translation studies research.

As a member of the ITI, I also commit to completing a minimum amound of CPD activities throughout the year, taking the form of webinars, conferences, reading or workshops.
